Calling all new bus riders!
All K–6 students taking the bus for the first time are invited to the Edmonton Expo Centre on Thursday, August 22 for the 16th annual First Riders event. This free event is a unique hands-on opportunity for you and your child to get familiar with riding the bus before the school year begins.
Afternoon sessions run every half hour, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Evening sessions run every half hour, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Please register by August 19 to save your spot.
APPLYING FOR YELLOW BUS SERVICE
Whether your child is new to yellow bus service or a returning rider, you need to apply for yellow bus service each school year.
NEW TO YELLOW BUS SERVICE
HOW TO APPLY
STEP 1
Contact your child’s preferred school for information on yellow bus service eligibility.
STEP 2
Complete the 2023-2024 yellow bus service application form.
STEP 3
If your child is new to the Division and has been approved for bus service for the 2023-24 school year, you will receive a letter in mid-August that includes the yellow bus:
- route number
- stop locations
- pick-up and drop off times
- company contact information
Once you have access to SchoolZone, that is where you can find yellow bus information. Route information is also available at your child’s school and through SchoolZone prior to the first day of school.

CURRENT YELLOW BUS RIDERS
If your child rides the yellow bus, you can apply for continued service to their current school in SchoolZone no later than June 1, 2023.
When you sign in to your parent SchoolZone account:
- go to the Student Profile tab
- choose Transportation
- select Bus Application
- follow instructions to apply for yellow bus service for next year and make sure to update your contact information
Missed the deadline? Use the 2022-23 yellow bus service application form or contact your child’s school. Applications are accepted throughout the year.
WHO CAN’T APPLY FOR CONTINUED SERVICE IN SCHOOLZONE?
Contact your school if your child is a:
YELLOW BUS SERVICE IN BAD WEATHER
Yellow school buses may run later than usual, or not at all, on days when the weather is very bad. It's important to have alternate arrangements in place for getting your child to school in case the bus doesn't arrive. Don't leave your child unattended at the bus stop in severe weather for any period of time. Learn more about late and cancelled buses.
